Experts anticipate the pallet wrapping industry to continue expanding, thanks to the growing number of businesses that rely on pallet wrapping machines to protect their products during transport and those seeking out automated solutions to keep up with the pace of supply and demand.
The main regions of the world seeing this growth are North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, South America, Middle East and Africa. While many industries have invested in pallet wrapping systems, the food and beverage sector alone accounted for nearly 177 million dollars worth of sales in .
These trends also show that specialty, automatic and semi-automatic machines have become a focal point for business owners because they free up valuable time and labor that they can reallocate toward other areas of operation.
Questions to Ask Before Buying a Pallet Wrapper
If you’re like other business owners and operators who need top-quality tools and equipment to keep up with today’s market demands, your pallet wrapping system is a good place to start.
What Pallet Wrapper Should I Get?
Before deciding which pallet wrapping system is best for you, ask yourself the following questions:
-
How many pallets does my business currently wrap per day? A fully automatic pallet wrapper might be the best choice for high-volume warehouses, while smaller operations will likely find success with semi-automatic machines.
-
What are the specifications of those pallets? The type of pallets you work with, including their contents, can help you make an informed buying decision. Note the average weight and dimensions of your current pallets to help you choose between a high or low profile machine, as well as the required load capacity.
-
How much space do I have to work with? Some pallet wrapping systems require more space than others. Take into account the amount of floor, wall and overhead area you have available for your pallet wrapper.
-
What is my budget? The best pallet wrapping machines to buy are those that require an initial investment that is within your budget. The right pallet wrapping machine should also offer a significant return on investment later on, through avenues like increased production time.
-
How hands-free do I want to be? While manual wrapping systems are appropriate for some, semi-automatic and automatic wrappers are quickly becoming the go-to method for busy owners and operators looking to save money and focus their workforce elsewhere.
As you read through this pallet wrapping buying guide, keep your answers to these questions in mind to find the best machine suited for your needs, space and budget.

While semi-automatic turntables require an employee to cut the film, fully automatic machines can sense the size of the load, and cut and secure the wrapping when finished.
HP-SWA A-ARM Platform Automatic
The high profile HP-SWA A-ARM Platform Automatic is one of the best fully automatic turntable machines available.
In addition to the same durable construction you’ve come to expect from quality wrappers, you also access the following features:
-
Hands-free operation: Operate your pallet wrapper — including cutting and attaching the wrap — from the comfort and security of a forklift using a wireless remote.
-
Efficient wrapping: This wrapper comes equipped with a special film threading device that places the sticky side of the wrap against the pre-stretching rollers on the inside of the load while offering a superior level of film-to-roller contact.
-
Patented A-Arm design: The A-Arm starts at the bottom of the load, rather than the top, and both cuts and holds the film while working its way down. It operates quickly and quietly, allowing the load to stabilize regardless of placement on the turntable. Plus, built-in safety features will let you know if your stack is too uneven and will adjust the A-Arm’s height to clear any obstructions.
-A Conveyorized A-Arm Automatic
In addition to our patent-pending A-Arm design, the -A Conveyorized A-Arm Automatic pallet wrapper offers a fully automatic conveyorized system that can accommodate two pallets to start, and even more if you need to expand.

Industrial manufacturers, warehouses, and shipping facilities will find that there are many benefits to investing in a stretch wrapper such as:
- Stretch wrappers help to enhance the protection of products from environmental elements such as dust, dirt, and moisture.
- Stretch wrappers can be used to make a load more stable. This will decrease the possibility of shifting during transport and causing damage to the product.
- Use to improve shipping and handling efficiencies. Stretch wrappers will help to increase stack heights, increase workers productivity, and flexibility.
- Enhance inventory control by reducing the risk of potential product separation.
- Usually stretch films are recyclable making it eco-friendly.
Stretch wrappers most commonly use low-density polyethylene, which can stretch up to 500% of its length before breaking. The film is typically only stretched 100 to 300% when in use, and once it is stretched the elastic recovery keeps the load tight and secure. Less expensive than used heat tunnels and more efficient than hand wrapping, used stretch wrappers increase efficiency and employee productivity. The stretch wrap material is also recyclable, therefore, helping the environment. In warehouse and industrial settings, stretch wrappers most commonly serve the following functions: Improved stability of products and packages, which forms a unit load, easier handling and storage of unit loads, contents are protected from pilferage because product is harder to access once wrapped, and contents are protected against dust and debris to some extent.
The three common types of stretch wrappers are manual, semi-auto, and automatic.
Manual stretch wrappers come in three different styles.
- Extended core stretch wrapper is just a roll of film with an elongated spool, which acts as handles on either end of the film. This is the least consistent method of stretch wrapping because the tension is controlled by hand.
- There are also mechanical brake stretch wrapper, which provide resistance against the film to create stretch.
- The last style of manual stretch wrappers are pole wrappers, which are similar in style to the mechanical brake wrapper. Pole wrappers use an extended pole with the roll and brake at the end, eliminating the need to bend and reach.
Semi-automatic stretch wrappers also come in three different styles: turntable, orbital, and rotary arm.
- Turntable wrappers use a turntable on which the load is positioned, and spins while the film roll moves up and down on a fixed mast. The stretch is achieved because the load is rotated faster than the film is fed.
- Orbital wrappers use a vertical rotating ring to apply the stretch wrap to products moving horizontally through the ring. Products are either suspended in the ring by hand, machinery, or conveyor.
- Rotary arm stretch wrappers are the last style, and with this system the load stays still while the rotating arm turns around it, wrapping it with film.
Automatic stretch wrappers are similar in design to semi-auto, but there are automated systems to load the machine, and to apply seal, and cut the film. Automatic stretch wrappers come in turntable and rotary arm styles as well. The only style that is unique to an automatic wrapper is the rotary ring wrapper. This style houses the film on a horizontal ring which moves vertically relative to the load being wrapped while the load stays in place.
The more high volume shipments you have going out, the more likely your facility could benefit from an automatic or semi-automatic stretch wrapper. If your operation is small or you do not frequently have full pallets to ship, a manual stretch wrapper might be more fitting. When making this decision, be forward thinking and try to forecast where your company will be in five years. A manual stretch wrapper might be enough for today, or the next two years, but a few years down the road you might have to replace it with a semi or fully automatic setup to meet your shipping needs anyway. You should always consider upgrading now and saving money in the long run, as this applies to many different types of material handling equipment.
