The human sense of smell is incredibly powerful. According to a TED-Ed lesson, adults can distinguish up to 10,000 different smells. After all, it is the first sense used when we're born. This is all made possible by the olfactory epithelium, located in the back of the nose, which detect smells with millions of neurons.

Humans typically sense 10 basic types of smells. They are:
'Smell is processed by the part of the brain that handles emotions,' Terry Molnar, executive director for the Sense of Smell Institute in New York, told the Denver Post. 'It is a matter of association,' he said.
While smell may vary for people based on their own personal experiences, we can all agree some smells are intrinsically bad. Odors that fall into the 'pungent' or 'decayed' categories can wreak havoc on our nasal passages, but are increasingly difficult to eliminate completely. Many methods simply mask the odor instead of eradicating it.
When introduced to an environment in a gas state at the right levels, ozone will reduce bacteria, mold odors or any other organic material.
We love our pets. We let our animals cuddle on the couch or even snuggle up in bed with us. Over time, many pet owners may not realize the lingering animal odor in their home. Whether it's caused by cat urine, dog urine, or just a general smell, ozone can destroy the odor.
To start, you will need an A7K Ozone Generator or an A- Ozone Generator and a tarp
Once you have decided which item to ozonate first you will need to take the tarp and drape it over the item
Lay something to help hold down the tarp on the sides which will help hold in the ozone
Then, take the ozone generator and place the exhaust side under the tarp making sure the air vents aren't covered and are able to pull fresh air in
You will then need to turn on your unit with both plates running, with the fan on high, and with a 30-minute run cycle
Exit the house at this point or have this set up in a garage
Once the cycle is complete, wait 12 to 24 hours for the ozone to dissipate, then you can enter the area and decide if another treatment is needed
If you are trying to ozonate a smaller object you would need to get a plastic tote and cut a hole for the exhaust of the unit to fit in and another for excess gas to escape. Then run the unit for 30 minutes or less with the fan on a high setting.
After a fire it is important to clean all objects that have been impacted.
To remove the smell, it is important to use a tactic that will work to kill the particles that are deeply embedded in household objects and the air.
Additionally, smoke particles could be stuck in the ducts and ventilation of the air conditioning system.
Ozone is an effective way to do this, and is even used by many professional services. The A- Ozone Generator or the A7K Ozone Generator are most effective for this application.
First, treat the individual room that has the worst odor or smoke damage
Before turning the ozone generator on, remove all people, plants, and/or pets from the room so they do not come into direct contact with ozone
Second, determine the severity of the smell, which will dictate the amount of time needed for cleaning
For example, heavy smoke smells will require longer treatment times (4 hours or more), while pet smells could be solved in a shorter amount of time (4 hours or less)
Next, place the ozone generator into the severely impacted room and turn the unit on full power while selecting the appropriate time setting on the unit
Be sure to leave the room immediately after the ozonator begins producing ozone
Use the A/C system to freshen the entire home if the odor is still present
This will push ozone through the vents with the A/C fan
Determine where the air return vent is on the heating and cooling system
Remove the filter and turn the AC fan ON
Place the ozonator in front of or near the return vent and be sure the heating and cooling system's fan is to the always on position
Turn the ozone generator on for a 4-hour cycle and immediately exit the building
It will be safe to return to the building at a minimum of 12 to 24 hours later
After the process is complete, ozone reverts back to oxygen meaning no residual chemicals are left behind. This is a preferred method to bleach or other chemical alternatives because it leaves the treated area smelling fresh.
After the source of the mold is removed, use ozone to remove the smells left behind. The A7K Ozone Generator or Air- Ozone Generator is the most useful solution. At mg/hr, ozone is an effective agent for mold and mildew odor removal.
First, treat the room with the mold & mildew damage
Before turning the ozone generator on, remove all people, plants, and/or pets from the room so they do not come into direct contact with ozone
For most mold & mildew odors, do a full four-hour treatment
Be sure to leave the room immediately after the ozonator begins producing ozone
Repeat the treatment as necessary
Water damage leaves an unpleasant smell behind in the home. Whether it's a ruptured pipe or water damage from a flood, use ozone. Follow these steps to remove odors caused by water damage:
If the smell lingers, repeat the process multiple times to remove the odor or mildew impacting the area. We recommend a 30 minute cool down for the unit after each run. The A7K, the premiere model in the Air Series, boasts a repeat timer and remote to easily restart the treatment process.
Whether you're a smoker or have a loved one that is, the lingering smell of cigarettes can be an annoyance. The odor can seep into clothing or furniture and feel like it is impossible to remove. Use ozone to oxidize the smelly substances found residing in secondhand smoke. Use the same procedure as that for smoke removal.
By using a unit from A2Z Ozone's powerful Air Series, lingering odors stuck in furniture can be eliminated. Whether it's caused by pets, smoke or more all-natural ozone can eradicate the odors for good.
Knowing how to get rid of the smell is important as skunk season approaches. If skunk odor has impacted your home, follow these steps to eliminate the odor with an ozone generator:
The A7K Ozone Generator from A2Z Ozone is the most effective at completing this application.
Follow this step-by-step guide to perform an ozone treatment for any car. Ozone treatment will leave your vehicle smelling fresh.
The kitchen can be the source of many foul odors. Whether it's the trash, cooking fumes or appliances, using ozone regularly can freshen the air in this communal space of the home.
Some general guidelines based on square footage are as follows:
For severe odors'
First, treat the individual room that has the worst odor or smoke damage
Before turning the ozone generator on, remove all people, plants, and/or pets from the room so they do not come into direct contact with ozone
Second, determine the severity of the smell, which will dictate the amount of time needed for cleaning
For example, heavy smoke smells will require longer treatment times (4 hours or more), while pet smells could be solved in a shorter amount of time (4 hours or less)
Next, place the unit into the severely impacted room and turn the ozone generator from A2Z Ozone on full power while selecting the appropriate time setting on the ozone generator
Be sure to leave the room immediately after the ozone machine begins producing ozone
Turn the unit on for a 4-hour cycle and immediately exit the building
It will be safe to return to the building at 12 to 24 hours later
After the process is complete, ozone reverts back to oxygen, meaning no residual chemicals are left behind. This is a preferred method to bleach or other chemical alternatives because it leaves the treated area smelling fresh. Remember, do not use ozone to remove chemical odors, including new carpet odors and fresh paint odors.

IMPORTANT:
When operating an ozone generator, please remember to remove people, pets, and plants from the area. Be sure to leave the area being treated immediately and only return once the ozone has dissipated. Under most conditions, the treated area should be safe to return to 12 to 24 hours after the ozone generator stops producing ozone. Treated spaces or buildings should be well-ventilated prior to re-entry
This guide is intended to provide a condensed overview of everything you need to know to operate MaxBlaster ozone generators. From preparation to long term maintenance, it explains the basics of how to use our machines for odor & mold remediation in homes, vehicles, and commercial spaces. If you don't already own one of our machines, that's okay. The following rules (other than suggested run times) apply to most other ozone machines too.

HOW IT WORKS
MaxBlaster ozone generators produce high concentrations of ozone gas that can effectively neutralize volatile organic compounds (VOC's) at the molecular level. When the ozone machine is turned on, oxygen (O2) is pulled through the chamber across a series of plates (corona discharge) and is converted into ozone (O3) gas. Ozone gas is emitted from the machine, and the goal is to flood the treatment area with super high concentrations of ozone gas in what is often referred to as "shock ozone treatment".
BEFORE GETTING STARTED
MaxBlaster ozone generators produce ozone gas in levels that the EPA considers unhealthy to breathe. Our ozone machines should be operated in spaces that are unoccupied during the treatment. Make sure the treatment area has been aired out prior to reoccupying.
OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Inspect machine prior to use 2. Prepare the treatment area 3. Place machine into position 4. Apply ozone (run time chart) 5. Air out the treatment area 6. Repeat if necessary

INSPECT MACHINE PRIOR TO USE
Briefly turn on your ozone machine and check for the following: There should be a flow of oxygen entering the machine (filter end) and ozone exiting the machine (non-filter end). There should be a subtle buzzing sound coming from near the outlet end of the machine. You should detect the scent of ozone exiting the machine. The ozone machine should not be filled with grime, debris, heavy dust, or residue. Optional: In a dark room you can look into outlet end of the machine to see a series of glowing purple lines in between the plates. Look briefly to avoid over-exposure to ozone.
PREPARE TREATMENT AREA
Remove all people, pets, and valuable plants. Remove the source that is causing the odor (ex: water damage, soiled carpet, dead rodent, etc). Reduce humidity and moisture to an absolute minimum. Use a dehumidifier if necessary. Wet areas must be dried first. Open cabinets, drawers, and expose all surfaces. Ozone will not penetrate solid materials. Optional: place fans in the treatment area to help distribute the ozone gas more evenly. Turn ceiling fans on and have them spinning in the direction that allows the air to be pulled upwards. Allow one or two windows to remain open 1' to aid in greater airflow & distribution throughout the area.
PLACE MACHINE IN POSITION
Set the ozone machine up in a manner that allows it to breathe the cleanest possible air. Place machine in a central part of treatment area and aim machine towards the center of room. Do not run the ozone machine on the floor. Place ozone machine at least at counter-top level. Higher placement is preferred. Place machine in a manner that it cannot fall or be knocked over. Do not allow children or pets to access it. Direct ozone into hvac only when cleaning the vents or to spread lower levels of ozone across home. For very small areas (example: cars) use hose adapter to allow machine to remain outside treatment where it can breathe cleaner air instead of the same dirty air inside the treatment area.
APPLY OZONE - RUN TIME CHART
Follow the Run Time Chart for an estimate of treatment times based on property size and degree of odor. The run time chart is a conservative estimate only. Contact us for customized recommendations. Do not run your ozone machine non-stop 24 hours a day for multiple days in a row (which may create a new odor that is difficult to eliminate). Repeat ozone application if necessary. Difficult odors may require multiple ozone treatments. Visit the Information Center page of our website to download a full copy of our Run Time Chart.
AIR OUT TREATMENT AREA
After applying the ozone, turn off your machine and allow normal oxygen levels to return. The natural method: Allow 3 hours for every 1 hour that you ran the machine for all of the ozone to naturally convert back to oxygen on its own. This is a very conservative estimate. Most of the ozone goes away within a couple hours. However, it can take many hours for all of it to dissipate. The expedited method: use fans, and open doors to speed up the airing out process. This can be done in as little as 30 minutes. To know if it is safe to reoccupy, use your best judgement (smell test) or use an ozone monitor for applications where ozone safety is an absolute priority. Contact us for details.
REPEAT IF NECESSARY
After airing out the space, assess the results of your treatment and repeat if necessary. Allow ample airing out time (24 hours if possible) then assess. The goal is an absence of all odors. If persistent odors remain, repeat the ozone process. Longer application times may be required for heavily saturated odors. Do not run your ozone machine non-stop for several days. Doing so may create a new scent that is difficult to eliminate. Repeat the ozone process, air it out again, and continue this pattern until all odors are removed.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Follow the operation instructions and safety guidelines in order to avoid adverse results. Remove people and pets prior to applying ozone. Remove or cover up valuable plants. Intended for use against organic odors. Chemical and non-organic odors are less predictable. May deteriorate certain materials (ex: rubber) if used longer than instructed. Contact us for a list of ozone compatible materials. Do not operate if machine shows signs of heavy internal grime or residue. Inspect machine prior to use. Use machine as instructed. Do not run 24/7.
STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Handle machine with care (like an expensive laptop computer) in order to prolong its lifespan. Do not drop or toss your machine around carelessly. Store ozone machine in the anti-static bag and fitted cardboard box (included with your order). Store machine in an environment with low humidity. Indoor storage only. Store machine in a location with moderate temperatures fluctuations (55-75 degrees). We recommend blowing compressed air through the chamber of the machine every so often to keep the components free of dust. If you go long periods in between uses, be sure that no dust has settled on the internal plates during storage. Turning your ozone machine on with dust on the plates may lead to plate failure that requires service
SERVICE & MAINTENANCE
The best way to minimize service to your ozone machine is to use and maintain it properly. Follow the operation instructions carefully. If the foam filter (intake end) appears dirty: remove it, rinse with water, dry it, and replace it. Blow compressed air through the machine periodically to keep plates free of dust. If your ozone machine does not turn on: there may be a disconnected wire between fuse holder, switch, or transformer. If your ozone machine blows air but no ozone: It most likely needs new generator pack (set of plates). Do not use machine if the internal components are dirty and grimy. Visit the Information Center page of our website to find service options including self-service, full-service, and trade-in programs.
